Open Day on the presses
9 August 2026 ยท By Pavement Print Studio
We spent RMIT Open Day in Building 94 on the City campus, printing with prospective graphic design students. It was a loose demonstration rather than a set workshop. People stopped by, we showed them how the studio works, and anyone who wanted to could pull their own print and take it home.
We made the meshes on the spot with the Handerude, then printed using the Surimacca technique from JAM in Osaka. It is a modular system, quick to set up and easy to hand over, so a first-time printer can ink a screen and pull a clean print within a few minutes. That is what makes it good for a day like this. There is no long setup and no waiting around, just paper, ink and a squeegee.
Thanks to Sarah, Fauve, Teejay, Jenny and Lily for coming along and printing alongside everyone who dropped in. The prints below came out of the day.
Don't Delete the Kisses, two colour on card by Teejay Lawrence, 2026
Shape and symbol prints in glow pink.
A ladybird print pulled on the day.
