Melbourne Design Week 2026: Programme Announced
8 April 2026 · By Pavement Print Studio
We're In
Pavement Print Studio is part of Melbourne Design Week 2026. Our project — 'Open Edition' runs across the Brunswick Design District from 15-24 May with workshops at M-Pavilion RMIT Brunswick and an exhibition at Balam Balam Place.
Four days of collaborative printmaking followed by an exhibition at Balam Balam Place. See our listing on the Melbourne Design Week website

Workshop Sessions
15-18 May at M-Pavilion, RMIT (25 Dawson Street). Two sessions each day, 8 participants per session. Each session runs for 2.5 hours.
15th and 16th are part of the Brunswick Design District Open Studio Programme.
Morning sessions 10:00-12:30. Afternoon sessions 13:30-16:00.
Participants work with our crew to create individual designs using modular templates and visual prompts. We laser cut stencils on site, then screen print through them. Your print gets layered with others' work through overprinting, creating unexpected combinations and visual dialogue.
Everyone takes home their collaborative print. The accumulated work from all sessions becomes the exhibition installation.

Free participation. No experience needed. The process is designed to be accessible regardless of background.
Book your session through Humanitix. Limited spaces per session to ensure proper engagement with the process and materials.

Exhibition Opening
20 May at Balam Balam Place (Space 403, 15 Phoenix Street, Brunswick). Opening event 6:00pm.
All the collaborative prints from the workshop sessions assembled as a large-scale installation. The exhibition documents the network of people who participated and shows how individual contributions combine into collective work.
Exhibition continues 20-24 May throughout the remainder of Melbourne Design Week. Open during gallery hours.

Brunswick Design District
This programme is part of both Melbourne Design Week 2026 and the Brunswick Design District open studio programme. We're operating across multiple locations in Brunswick demonstrating how design education and production can happen in public space.

Making It Happen
This programme exists because of direct support from partners who believe in accessible design education and community-centred practice. Brunswick Design District provides funding and connects us into the wider MDW programme across Brunswick. Permaset supplies the water-based screen printing inks. Ball & Doggett provides the paper stock. Gildan Brands supplies the crew t-shirts. RMIT Creative Industries provides institutional support, venue access at M-Pavilion. Together they make free, accessible, professionally executed printmaking workshops possible.
